SOUTHAMPTON, Pa.--July 29, 2002-- Truescreen has released a white paper explaining legislation that permits the use of electronic signatures to authorize applicant background checks. The paper also highlights new Web-based technology that allows employers to integrate electronic signatures into their application process.

"The ESIGN Act: Harnessing New Hiring Efficiencies with Electronic Signatures," provides an easy-to-understand overview of the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce (ESIGN) Act, which granted nationwide legality to the electronic signature. It also examines a subsequent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) ruling, which clarified ESIGN’s applicability to authorizing consumer investigative reports for employment purposes.

The paper also explains how employers can use Truescreen's online employment application solution, Application Station, to secure an applicant’s electronic authorization for a background check, and then to submit a background check request online.
