Arizona governor directs state personnel officials to “Ban the Box”

Gov. Doug Ducey issued an executive order instructing all state agencies to eliminate any questions on initial job applications about whether a person has a criminal record.

Under the new policy, state agencies will not ask about an applicant’s criminal record until an applicant has submitted an application and received an initial interview.

A full copy of the executive order can be found here.

With this legislation, Arizona becomes the 30th state to enact a “Ban the Box” policy.

A complete listing of the states, cities and counties that have enacted “Ban the Box” legislation is available here.
