Indiana becomes 27th state to adopt statewide “Ban the Box” policy

Gov. Eric Holcomb issued an executive order barring public-sector employers from asking applicants to disclose their criminal history upfront during the hiring process.

To complement the executive order, the governor also signed Senate Bill 312, which prohibits counties, municipalities and townships in the state from enacting their own versions of “Ban the Box” or other fair chance hiring laws.

For a listing of the states and localities that have enacted “Ban the Box” legislation, you can read our Compliance Issue Analysis by clicking here.
