Changes to DOT Drug and Alcohol Management Information System Access Starting 2024

DOT recently changed how safety sensitive employers will need to report company drug and alcohol testing data.

Beginning January 1, 2024, DOT-regulated employers, as mandated by 49 CFR Part 40, will be required to submit their annual drug and alcohol testing data via is a secure sign in service used by the public to sign in to participating government agencies' systems. There is no charge or fee for using

Getting Started

DOT-regulated employers without a current account will receive an email or letter, addressed to the Designated Employer Representative (DER) on file from DOT. This correspondence will contain a 32-digit code to enter on the Management Information System (MIS) website. Employers will be directed to the website where they will create an account by verifying their email address, creating a password, and choosing an authentication method to secure their account.

Employers who already have a account (for instance, when registering for the FMCSA Clearinghouse) can simply sign in to their account.

Important Notes

It is extremely important to register the Designated Employer Representative (DER) for your company and ensure information is safe guarded and accessible should that person leave.

Once in the MIS system, employers will enter drug and alcohol information the same way they always have.

MIS reporting functionality enables the Department of Transportation a window into the overall health of your safety sensitive workplace testing program. This transition is designed to enhance workplace safety and compliance.
